Notes by Larry Hakel : "Col. Robert Beatie married Pauline White and moved to Seven Mile Ford just northeast of Glade Springs where he operated a store. In 1833 he moved to the Town House community (now Chilhowie) which took its name from the Town House which he bought in 1837. He was the first Clerk of the Court of Smyth County which organized in 1832.

"The (1837) Beattie Farm was called Kilmackronan. He enlarged the house and made it a combination house and stage coach tavern. The tavern apparently had quite a reputation in its day which still follows it. "
