In the Name of God Amen I, RICHARD WILLS, of the Island of Saint Helena, Farmer, being weak in body but of sound mind memory and understanding (thanks be to God for the same) do make and declare this to be my last Will and Testament in the manner following.
First I commend my Soul to almighty god and my body to the Earth to be interred by my Executors avoiding all unnecessary expence and I will and direct my Executors hereafter named to pay my just Debts and Funeral Expences from and out of my personal Estate as soon as conveniently may be after my decease.
And I give and devise to my dearly beloved Wife her heirs and assigns forever absolutely All those ten Acres of Land Permanent Tenure called W Baleys (be the same little more or less) situate on the said Island and now in my own occupation with all rights and privileges to the same belonging. Also I give and devise to my dear Son, THOMAS BROWN WILLS his heirs and assigns forever absolutely All that Freehold Dwelling House called Fosters and the land thereto belonging situate on the said Island and now also in my occupation subject and charged to and with the Payment of the Sum of Two Hundred Pounds due to the Widows' Fund on Mortgage together with all Interest that may be due thereon. And also I give and bequeath to my said son all my Horses Cattle and Farming Stock together with my Household Furniture (not including Plate) and my slave man Pompey (subject and charged with the payment of my Debts and Funeral Expences).
Also I give and devise to my dear daughter CATHERINE WILLS her heirs and assigns forever absolutely all those Freehold Lands called Bryants containing ten acres (little more or less) situate on the said Island and now in my occupation. NB (Subject and charged to and with the payment of the sum of Fifty pounds to my grand-daughter MARY FRANCES PEARCE (as aftermentioned).
Also I give devise and bequeath to my dear daughter ANN CAROLINE WILLS her heirs and assigns forever absolutely the meadow Land immediately below the main road under my Dwelling House called the meadow containing about two acres also in my occupation.
And I give and bequeath to my said grand-daughter MARY FRANCES PEARCE the sum of Fifty pounds, chargeable as aforesaid to be paid at her arrival of sixteen years or day of marriage which shall first happen (without Interest).
And it is my particular direction and request that my said son shall allow my dear Wife to reside and dwell rent free in my said Dwelling House called Fosters for her life if she so long remains a Widow in return for her kind motherly Care and Attention to Him after the loss of his own Mother from the tender age of sixteen months.
And as to all the Rest and Residue of my Property of every kind and description whatsoever and wheresoever both real and personal I give and devise and bequeath the same to my said Wife and to my said children THOMAS BROWN WILLS, JANE CATHERINE WILLS and ANN CAROLINE WILLS, grand-daughter MARY FRANCES PEARCE heir heirs and assigns forever equally share and share alike absolutely.
And I nominate, constitute and appoint my said Wife Executrix and my said Son together with my Friends WILLIAM SPEAKMAN FOWLER and JAMES EDMUND FOWLER Executors of this my Last Will and Testament. Hereby revoking all my former Wills by me at any time heretofore made. In Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this Nineteenth Day of April in the Year One Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty Three. Sgd. Richard Wills Seal
The above Will not having been signed by myself in the presence of subscribing Witnesses I hereby acknowledge the same to be signed by myself and to contain my present wishes and do declare the same to be my last Will and Testament (subject to the alterations made in my own hand-writing.
