Richard(1) Wells, Dea., of Salisbury, "glover," b. ab. 1607; [The "Welles Family," published in 1876, states that Dea. Richard Wells was born in 1609, in Colchester, Essex Co., Eng., and was a bro. of Dea. Thomas of Ipswich, and of Nathaniel of Rhode Island [b. ab. 1600]. Richard Wells, 26, is on the list of "passengers for Virginia," Aug., 1635, in the "Globe" of London.] He recd. land in the "1st division" and 1654; commoner and taxed 1650 and '52; signed petition of 1658; oath free. 1663; d. July 12, 1672[S]; adm. est. Oct. 1672. Sv. says he was in Lynn in 1638. … No children.
