"A Richard Scofield is first found in Ipswich records in late 1641, and is thought to be the man of the same name who appeared at Stamford in 1655 [Gillespie Anc 437-41]. The gap of nearly seven years between the passenger list entry and the appearance in Ipswich, especially when the passenger was already an adult in 1635, leads us to disagree with the identification of the 1635 passenger as the Ipswich resident.

The resident of Stamford did not have any children until about 1649, when the 1635 passenger would have been about thirty-six years old. No record for the Stamford man gives us a good estimate for his age. Richard Scofield of Stamford was brother of Daniel Scofield of the same town [Gillespie Anc 438, citing Stamford LR A: 162]. Discovery of the English origin of the Stamford Scofield brothers might give us a firm date of birth for this Richard Scofield, and tell us whether the identification of the 1635 passenger with the Stamford resident is chronologically possible."
