Devised the land known as “Ridgefield as it now stands” by his father William B. Mitchell’s will of 1843. He is taxed for this as 577 acres in 1844 until 1873 . In 1874 it is taxed to “Estate of Richard B. Mitchell” and in 1875 it is taaxed to T. C. and W. Y. Chinn (see below). Previousl to 1844, it had been taxed as 577 acres to William B. Mitchell.

On 20 AUGUST 1866, he mortgaged this property along with personal household goods and farm livestock to RIchard A. Claybrook, along with his interest in “the Litwalton Property’ [sold in 1869 to T. D. Ficklin]. (Lancaster Deed Book 43, p. 28). Timber rights reserved. On margin of this deed is “assigned, delivered trustee 18 January 1871”).

6 June 1873. Richard A. Claybrook, trustee, to Tasker C. Chinn and William Y Chinn, 577 acres known as Ridgefield per deed order and request of Addison L. Carter and James K. Ball, sureties to RIchard B. Mithcell’s bond as guardian to T. C. Chinn and William Y. Chinn, who on 21 March 1871 sold “Ridgefield” 577 acre farm at Litwalton. Dower rights reserved. 9 FEB 1878. T. C. Chinn to William Y. Chinn, both of Richmond County, VA. Exchange of ownership in lands. This deed conveys T. Carter Chinn’s interest in RIdgefield Farm to his brother William Y. Chinn, in exchange for William Y Chinn’s interest in Edgefield Farm on Morattico Creek in Richmond Co¨nt. (Lancaster County, VA DB 44:550).
