Born 1766 in Peekskill, NY. Mved with his family from Middle Smithfield, PA to Sheshequin in 1792 and settled on the Towner place which he purchased from Arnold Franklin. Here as early as 1808, he opened a house of public entertainment, the first in Lower Sheshequin, and continued as an innkeeper for a number of years.
