The information about Richard's birthplace (Rhode Island) is derived from an entry in the 1880 US Census for his son, Thomas J. Edwards (1806-1883) which states that his father was born in Rhode Island. Unfortunately, there is no such declaration for the birthplace of Thomas' mother (Mary), about which we know very little.
