BIOGRAPHY: Captain Wightman of Quidnessett, R. I. (1632 - 1721/2) And Descendants Compiled by Mary Ross Whitman Chicago, Ill. 1939 - Page 118 His wife Roby (Knight) Whitman was the daughter of Benjamin Knight, an innkeeper in Cranston. When General Lafayette was passing through Rhode Island, he stopped at her father's inn, and observing Roby, a girl in her teens and remarkably pretty, gave her a snuff box as a souvenir. Henry Whitman died intestate. His widow in her will names her two children and her grand-children.
