John Sanders married twice. First to Return Shattuck and secondly to Mary Sargent. Return, wife of John Sanders, died previous to 1695, for at this date his deeds of transfer have but one signature.
[Hmmm, p. 76: the marriage date to 2nd wife Mary Sargent is given as 16 Dec 1695, and is found in Haverhill VRs. However, this may need some confirmation. The John Sanders who was called "h. Mary (Sargent)" died in Haverhill 1737 in 66th year, so born about 1672, which would seem to correspond to the son of James Sanders and Sarah Page of Haverhill. Everything shown for the second marriage of the husband of Return is shown by Source:Sanders, Charles Walton. Genealogy of the Cortland County, N. Y. Branch of the Sanders Family to be the only marriage of the son of James and Sarah. Source:Shattuck, Lemuel. Memorials of the Descendants of William Shattuck : The Progenitor of the Families in America That Have Borne His Name, p. 361, does say that Return (and her brother Retire) "died after their father [in 1689] and before the distribution. They left no issue and are not mentioned in the settlement [in 1701]." This even calls into the question the children attributed to John and Return by this source.]
