Rebecca had one brother, Thomas, who made his will as a young man in 1653, before he was 21. He left his land as a life estate to his mother, the remainder, half to his half siblings, and half to his sister Rebecca's two children. Rebecca got anything only if her two children died before her. Rebecca and John fought the will, arguing Thomas was not yet 21 and thus the will was invalid. Thomas thus died intestate, and everything should go to his single full sibling, Rebecca. The dispute when on for more than 50 years, into the 3rd generation.
