From the Herald Press, St. Joseph Michigan, Tuesday, June 29, 1943: Pvt. Raymond Sharai died at Bushnell Hospital in Brigham, Utah Saturday. He had been in service 18 months and had been returned from over-seas to the hospital where he died. Pvt. Sharai was born August 24, 1915 in Sodus and married Mary Azzorolo in South Bend, Ind. Nov. 16, 1940. Before he entered service they had lived at 932 Bishop street, Benton Harbor. Mrs. Sharai survives, as does a child, Mary Lee. Before his marriage Pvt. Sharai lived with his foster parents Mr. and Mrs. Amos Thomas, Sodus. Mrs. Thomas survives. Other survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Lula Rozinski, Benton Harbor, and Mrs. Eda Metzger, Kendallville, Ind., and two step-brothers, Lt. Melvin Carrell, over-seas, and Sgt. John Deetjen, in California. Pvt. Sharai had been a member of the Ancient Order of Gleaners. The body will arrive in Benton Harbor tomorrow afternoon and be taken to the Reiser mortuary. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The Berrien County chapter of the American Red Cross started Mrs. Sharai west to see her husband when medical authorities reported his condition as serious. As soon as word of his death was received the Red Cross intercepted her at Omaha, and she was returned home.
