Randall Whitman (William 5, Capt. Valentine 4, Valentine 3, John 2, George), born 11 January 1806 in Peterboro (Smithfield), Madison Co., N. Y.; died 20 August 1847 in Michigan. He married first in Livingston County, N. Y., 16 March 1829, Sarah Severance, born 8 December 1804 in New Hampshire; died 29 December 1843 in Lafayette, Tippecanoe Co., Ind. Aged thirty-nine: married second, in Livingston County, N. Y., Mary Van Valkenburg.
Randall Whitman was a lad of about fifteen when he went with his parents from Onondaga County, N. Y. to the new home in Groveland, Livingston County. An old letter giving an account of the journey tells of the boy Randall walking and driving his own prized calf all the way. He married in Livingston County, removing after some years to Lafayette, Ind. After his wife's death there he returned to New York state where he located on a small fruit farm on Lake Conesus, and also ran a pleasure resort.
He finally contemplated removing to Michigan and went there to select a location. He died while on this trip, but there is no record of the place. The family was at the time disunited, the second wife not being favorable to the removal, and one daughter was living with an aunt in Port Huron.
