Mutterstadt can be found in the area of Ludwigshofen, along the Rhein River. Here we find the first records of Philipp Daniel Koch and the birth of his fifth child, a daughter named Elisabetha born August of 1706. philipp Daniel's first 4 children do not appear in the records of Mutterstadt, these records begin with a few entries in the late 1690's. By the early 1700's the taufen or birth records begin to fill in, if the Koch's were in town their early children should be listed. It appears that the family must have migrated to Mutterstadt during Louis XIV's Wars of Reunion, in which the French King devasted the Rheinland. Philipp Daniel had five children in Mutterstadt. He was listed as a Gerichtsverwandter, or member of the judicial court. Philipp Daniel died sometime between the birth of his last child in 1717 and the marriage of Elisabethat in 1732, where he is noted as deceased. His daughter Maria Catharina and son Philipp both immigrated to Pennsylvania, while two sons and three daughter left descendants in Mutterstadt.
