PHILANDER CASSMAN was born on 22 Mar 1815 at Delaware County, Indiana.

He married CATHERINE (KATIE) PATTERSON on 9 Aug 1835 at Wabash County, Indiana, at the age of 20. He and CATHERINE (KATIE) PATTERSON appeared on the census of 1840 at Delaware County, Indiana. PHILANDER and CATHERINE (KATIE) PATTERSON moved to Tippecanoe County in 1843. They moved by covered wagon and established a home directly north of Lafayette and west of the Indiana State Soldiers home, where the Soldier's cemetery is now located.S3

He died on 20 Mar 1851 at age 35.

  • Lathrup and Philander married sisters, Ella and Catherine (Katie) Patterson, of St. Mary's, Ohio. Philander and Katie had five children.
  • Philander helped build the first wooden bridge across the Wabash at Brown Street, in Lafayette. He died in 1851, two days before his thirty-sixth birthday.S3
