could someone help me edit this? I can't figure it out. wife 1 is Mrs Henderson, first name unknown prev marr to Henderson birthdate 1775-1784 d. abt 1832 Bedford. married Peter Lee 1794, Mr Henderson prob died bef then. 1800 Hillsborough, 1830 Bedford are her. 1810 Greenville SC is not her. I presume all children attributed Peter Lee are hers. wife 2 is Delilah prev marriage Robertson with 6 Robertson children b. 3 Oct 1786 in South Carolina d. unknown. Mr Robertson d. bef 1832 in Rutherford TN, where she was prob living in 1830. 1840 Bedford 1850 District 24, Bedford are her, widowed, and 1870 District 14, Coffee, Tennessee. I think you all will find that this solves all the problems, ages of wives etc. The only problem with this is that one of the children is named Delilah, whom I've attribute to the 1st wife. Still, Delilah was a common name at the time. http://genforum.genealogy.com/shoffner/messages/154.html Post by Larry Shoffner: Chris: There isn't a lot of information on Peter and his wife, Delilah, but here's what my research shows: Peter was born on 20 Nov 1770 in what is now Alamance County, NC. He was the son of Michael Shofner and Margaretha Fogleman. He married Delilah Henderson, probably in 1794, with whom he had at least six children. The possible 7th child is Hezekiah, supposedly born in Bedford County, TN, perhaps in 1822. Hezekiah reportedly married Emily Pitt in 1847 in Rutherford County, TN, had nine children and by 1860 had moved to Dyer County, TN. He is believed to have died sometime after 1880. As for Peter, he had moved to TN in 1808 only to return to NC in 1812 to manage lands he had inherited from his father. Later he sold these lands to his brother, Frederick, and was back in TN by 1820. His other children's names are as follows: 1. Caty Lattimore; b. 1795; d. 1822 2. William; b. 1797; d. 1879 3. Plummer L.; b. 20 Mar 1811; d. 8 May 1888 4. Gabriel; b. 1814; d. 1880 5. Elvira; b. 17 Jun 1817; d. 25 Sep 1886; married Thomas Gore 6. Elisabeth; b. 1819. Hope this helps some.

Acc to DeMoss, his first wife was Mrs Henderson (who was related to the family of Col. Jonathan Latimer of Connecticut later of Sumner TN) and his second wife was 'the widow Robertson of Rutherford TN with 6 children' so I guess the children too old to have been children of Delilah were children of his 2nd wife from her Robertson marriage. However, that doesn't explain the 3 girls age 0-10 in the 1800 census. DeMoss says Caty Lattimore was from his first marriage. Delilah would have been 9. I cannot find and 1810 or 1820 census for him. 1800 Hillsborough, Orange Peter Shofner 1M 0-10 Billie 1M 26-44 self 3F 0-10 Caty, D1, D2 1F 16-25 wife Which wife was this, if Delilah Henderson was alone with daughter in 1810 Greenville? If this is Delilah she must have married about age 9. I've put this to wife 1, a woman older than Delilah, and rejected th 1810 Greenville census. 1830 Bedford Peter Shofner 2M 0-5 Martin, Kye 2M 15-19 Plummer, Gabriel 1M 50-59 self 1F 0-5 Delilah 1F 10-14 Elizabeth 1F 15-19 Elvira 1F 20-29 D1 or D2 (Caty was already married) 1F 40-49 As Delilah was alive and living with the children after his death, unless they divorced, which was uncommon at the time, maybe Delilah was the widow Robertson, his 2nd marriage, and his first marriage was Mrs Henderson, someone else and the 1810 Delilah Henderson was not her. In order to make sense of the ages of the wives, and of the fact that Delilah is living with the children after his death, I have assumed that Delilah was the widow Robertson and Mrs Henderson was an older woman and that the 1810 Greenville census was not her. Letter to John and Amelia from Michael Shofner (I presume translated from German) 'Your uncle Peter has married a wife. She was called the Widow Robertson with six children of Rutherford county TN' I suppose dates to after 1832 if the youngest child Peter is from his 1st marriage. Perhaps wife1 died in childbirth. Censuses say wife2 was born in SC.
