He married Katharina Elisabeth Neiens 18 Nov1858 in Trier, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. He emigrated with his wife "Elisabeth" and children in 1874 from Germany to America. He was a farmer and had a farm in Oran,Fayette,Iowa. The terrain of his Oran farm is very similar to the terrain in Neidenbach,Rheinland-Pfalz,Germany, from which he and Elisabeth came. He is buried in Old Catholic Cemetery, Oelwein, Fayette, Iowa.
