Facts and Events
PETER was probably born, and died, in the PALATINATE. Two of his 3 known sons were born in Oberndorf. Oberndorf is a village located about 5 miles north of Rockenhausen, along side highway 48. In this area are a dozen villages, from where most of the early Tuscarawas County, Ohio, and Urbana, Indiana, pioneers had migrated. Besides the 3 sons mentioned here, Peter had 3 others by a second wife. Apparently, the other sons lived in Ohio. --White Creek 17:36, 25 July 2012 (EDT) The Ragersville, Ohio, Historical Society, put out a book to celebrate the town, called "Ragersville 1830-1980" (often quoted in WeRelate). The book lists another Oberndorf resident, Franz Gruber. He was the great-uncle of Anna Gruber, of Ragersville. Franz was a schoolmaster and church organist, and on Christmas Eve of 1818 composed the music to go with Joseph Mohr's words to the famous Christmas Carol: "Silent Night". There are other world famous people with links to Ragersville, mentioned in WeRelate.org (such as the Pershings).
