Leonard Cupp was a captain in the War of 1812, and came from Frederick County, MD. (Wiley, page 391) His company of the Virginia Militia volunteered in what is now Preston County, VA and rendezvoused at Morgantown. They marched to Pt. Pleasant where they were reorganized and subsequently marched to Fort Meigs. During their march, they often had to cut bushes to lie on at night to keep them out of water. (Wiley, page 292)

Will of Leonard Cupp: In the name of God, the first day of February One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty seven; I Leonard Cupp of Pleasant Township, Preston County & State of West Virginia, being in feeble health of Body but of sound mind and memory, do make this my last Will and Testament, at the same time utterly revoking all former wills made by me and declaring this to be my last will and testament. First I give and bequeath to my daughter Catharine, married to Jacob Burt the sum of Five dollars. To my son Jacob Cupp Five dollars. To my daughter Eve, married to Moses Silbaugh, Five dollars. To my daughter Sarah, married to James Benson, Five dollars. To my daughter Mary, married to Solomon Wilhelm, Two hundred dollars. To my son George Cupp's heirs Two hundred and fifty dollars to be equally divided among them; and I direct my Executor to be hereafter named that if there should not be enough of my personal property to pay all my just debts, charges of selling my Estate and to pay the above sums as bequeathed to sell so much of my real Estate lying and adjoining the land of Peter Frankhouser Junior to the highest bidder for cash as will satisfy The same as above stated and convey the same to the purchaser by deed, and lastly after all my just debts are paid as above stated I give and bequeath the whole rest and residue of my Estate, whether real or personal and everything I am possessed of whatsoever or wheresoever, to my daughter in law Mary Cupp, wife of my son John Cupp, so long as she lives and after her death to be equally divided among the heirs of my son John Cupp. At the same time I do appoint William McKie of Brandonville Executor of this my last will and testament to which I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 1st day of February 1867.  Peter Leonard2 Cupp (Peter1) was born April 08, 1776 in Northhampton County, Pennsylvania, and died 1871 in Brandonville, Preston County, (West) Virginia.  He married Susan B. Wolfe Abt. 1800, daughter of John Wolfe and Eva Wetzel.

Pioneers of Preston County, West Virginia: CUPP (( bugles and gatherings link)) Leonard, a captain in the war of 1812 lived near Locust Grove, Wiliam near Cranesville, and John on the Cunningham place near Hudson. All three were residents of Pleasant. The other borthers left the county, Christian going to Ohio and Jacob S. to Pennsylvania. We have no records that they married in Preston.
