He joined the Christian Brothers Order in New York City and took the name Brother Christian. He became president of La Salle College in New York, and later built a college in Hong Kong, and another in Ceylon. He retired in New York City. Lead: Dates the Christian Brothers were established: 1867 Ceylon (Sri Lanka), Seychelles 1875 Hong Kong (Saint John Baptist De La Salle founded the Brothers of the Christian Schools.)
