Asa Van Buren Walters enlisted as Pvt. Asa V. Walters with the 23rd Mississippi Infantry, Co. E. He mustered out 12 September 1861, at age 21, serving much of his time in Luka, Mississippi. His Infantry group was renamed and reconstructed several times, as the 3rd Mississippi Infantry and the 15th Consolidated Mississippi Infantry. Many of his company were captured at Fort Donaldson. They were exchanged in a group of 1021 POW's on a Steamer known as the "Jno. H. Done". Major N.G. Watts who was CSA Agent for Exhange of Prisoners. He was listed as one of them 20 September 1862. He was paroled from the Confederate Army 28 April 1865, at Vicksburg, Mississippi. Children: 1. Ellender Catherine Walters (b. 1861) 2. William Asa Walters (b. 1864) 3. Annie (b. 1870), m. Thomas H.
