Ora Ella Scaggs, known as Ella, was born to Thomas Scaggs & Mary E. Turner on August 7, 1866 in Lawrence County, Illinois. She had 4 siblings, all born in Lawrence County, Illinois: James Lewis, Jasper, Dora Della and Cora Ann.
She and Walter Wade Couch both lived in Lawrence County, Illinois when they married on October 17, 1883. Walter & Ella Couch had 7 children, 5 born in Illinois (Glen, Lula, Hattie Mable, Rollie William and Levi Walter) and 2 born in Washington state (Alva and Mollie Mae). During the years they were together, Walter and Ella lived in Illinois, Washington, Illinois, Arkansas and yet again in Illinois.
Between when Walter passed away in 1925 and 1931, Ella remarried to William Berninger, Jr., as reported by Kenneth Gray, MD, Ella's great grandson through her daughter Hattie Mable (Couch) Gray.
Ella Scaggs Couch Berninger passed away on March 4, 1957 and was buried by her first husband, Walter, in New Bethel Cemetery, Bellmont, Wabash County, Illinois. Her second husband, William, was buried by his first wife, Katherine Ann Berninger (daughter of John Berninger and Eliza Kunkel), in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carmel, Wabash County, Illinois.

The marriage record of Walter Wade Couch and Orrie (Ora) Ella Scaggs shows her parents as Thomas Scaggs & (Mary E.) Turner, thus disproving the parental lineage as being James and Elizabeth. Regarding information for Ora Ella on findagrave.com (which showed her parents correctly), I have had that findagrave memorial profile transferred to me and am gradually updating and expanding information there as it becomes available.
