From the book "History and progress of the county of Marion, West Virginia": Pg 100: "The citizens of Fairmont formed a joint stock company under the title of "The Regency of the West Virginia Normal School," and secured a charter for the same. The incorporators were Oliver Jackson, Jacob C. Beeson, Ellery R. Hall, John N. Boyd, Dennis B. Dorsey, James J. Burns, T. A. Fleming, J. H. Brownfield, T. A. Maulsby and A. Brooks Fleming. A board of directors was elected, of which Oliver Jackson was President...." Pg 161: "Mr. Oliver Jackson, proprietor of the Central mines, is and has been for years one of the leading business men of the county. Previous to the opening of his own, he was for some time superintendent of the West Fairmont mines, and was for some time engaged to the dry goods business in Fairmont."
