According to E. Leonard, in The Newton Genealogy (de Pere, Wisc., 1915)

OBEDIAH NEWTON" (Phineas, Obediah Thomas^ John^, Richard'), son of Phineas and Abigail ( ) Newton of Worcester, Spencer, Mass., and Croydon, N. H., was born in Worcester October 21, 1751.

He married in Grafton, Mass., February 23, 1775, Mehitabel Whitney, daughter of Joshua and Mehitabel (Wilson) Whitney of Spencer, Mass., where she was bom July 17, 1756.

She married (2) Williams, who died, and she married (3) Hanks, and removed to Ohio.

Obediah Newton lived in Spencer, Mass. his children were bom or baptized there. He lived for a time in Leicester and Stockbridge, Mass. He was a soldier of the Revolution, serving many enlistments. The service roll states that, his residence was Spencer; enlisted for that town; term three years; mustered May 10, 1777; also private Capt. John Holden's Company, Col. Thomas Nixon's 6th) regiment; other service—a long list, the last date being April 1, 1780.
