    Norman died of Dysentery while serving in the War. He was buried there in a local cemetery. At the time there was no way to get his body home for burial. After the war, Donald McIntyre had Norman's remains moved from Savannah to a military Cemetery. A headstone is in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery close to his parents and two sisters.

    He was with Sherman on the march thru Atlanta to the Sea when he fell ill of disease. He died in Savannah Georgia. After the war, his remains were removed to the National Cemetery at Beaufort, SC in Section 41, grave #4750. There is a monument to his memory in the Mt.Pleasant Cemetery in Jackson County, MI, where his parents are buried.

    Norman H. Herrick enlisted Co.A Eng & Mech Dec 31, 1863 at Waterloo for 3yrs at age 23. Mustered in Jan 5, 1864. Made Corporal Nov 1, 1864. Died disease at Savannah, GA on Jan 14, 1865. Buried National Cemetery at Beaufort, SC.
