Her first marriage to Harold Ziesemer ended when he died on August 1948 at age of 33. She remarried in 1958 to Howard Pikal who died 1997.

(Medical):Norma died from kidney failure from her diabetes. There were earlier instances where the nurses would call and state she was expected to die in the next few hours but she would astonish everyone by getting better. In January of 1993 she went to the Litchfield hospital with the expectation of a short stay since she was not expected to live very long. The hospital originally told the family she could stay there till she died but when she kept hanging on they gave up and transfered her to a nursing home across the street to die. This provided much her less care and comfort and probably hastened her death. Her brother Melvin also had diabetes and spent his last year in a nursing home in Biwabik. Her younger brother gorno also had diabetes as did both her children Gerald and Geraldine.
