Facts and Events
Died in logging accident on Marble Creek in Idaho. His brother brother, Frans Maurtiz, was coming from Sweden to join him, but when he arrived found that his brother was dead. Nils was a blacksmith and was setting charges to clear the creek so that the logs could be foated downstream when the dam was opened. The man who was supposed to open the dam and let the logs free found that his watch had stopped so he had to guess at the agreed upon time. He opened the dam too early and the logs came down and killed Nils. |
