After reviewing the handwritten records available through the Drouin collection and notarial legal records it appears there are two common spellings of his and his daughter, Marie's family name at the time. The most common is Patenostre and the second most common spelling is Patinostre. Although the 's' is clear in most records, for some reason Tanguay drops the 's' and records the name as Patenotre. The name in Francogene is spelled Patenaude which seems to have propagated.
