there is a record of his indentive of apprenticeship to his brother Robert, to be trained as a cordwainer (worker in Cordovan leather)(McLean II, sited H.W. p.17) He is also named as a beneficiary in Robert's will, with clothing, bedding and provision of "house room, washing & lodging by my sons Samuel & Stephen".
