Record of the Descendants of William Sumner of Dorchester, Mass., 1636, p. 14, gives the name as Nicholas Boylston Sumner, b. 3 May 1749, d. 7 Aug 1749, which would be 3 months, not weeks, and 4 days. There is no birth record in the published records to confirm the name, and the gravestone appears to clearly say what is given in the VRs. Since we don't know the source of Appleton's information, it is hard to give it any credence.
