NEWTON was born 24.6.1905 and was reared at Upper Lansdowne. After leaving school he worked with different members of his family. He married Ettie Tagg on 12.10.1927 and lived at Lansdowne where Newt had built a house. He later built a house in Spence street Taree where they lived for a while, George Atkins then asked Newt to take over the farm at Upper Lansdowne. He lived there for about 17 years building up a successful dairy farm. After building a home at Harrington he and Ettie moved there to live. He continued with building, erecting two cottages behind his home. His lifelong commitment to the Anglican Church which began at Upper Lansdowne continued at Harrington where he built St. Peters Church. St. Peters Day in the Anglican Church Is celebrated on 26th June which is also Newt's birthday - a happy coincidence. Newt and Ettie celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in October, 1987. They raise three sons - Les living at Harrington, Earnest at Murrurundi and Barry now deceased.
