Obituary of: Nellie Matthews

FOREST CITY, Indiana: Pekin Dailey Times 28 April 2004 -- Nellie Mae Matthews, 98, of 206 Second St. died at 11:55 a.m. Monday, April 26, 2004, at Pekin Living & Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Forest City Community Church. Cremation will be accorded. Burial of ashes will follow at a later date at Forest City Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Maas Funeral Home in Manito.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Forest City Community Church.

Matthews was born Aug. 1, 1905, in Olney, to Balsam and Martha Misner Bailey. She married Alvin Matthews Nov. 3, 1928, in Havana. He preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 1974.

She also was preceded in death by two infant daughters, one great-granddaughter, four sisters, and eight brothers.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie (Jack) Woiwode of Manito and Joyce Wahfeld of Appleton, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Matthews, a homemaker, was a member of the the Forest City Community Church, where she formerly taught Sunday school. She also belonged to its Ladies Aid.

She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America Camp 1199.
