A brief sketch of this family (vital records only) was published in the book "Royal Families: Americans of Royal and Noble Ancestry, Volume One: Governor Thomas Dudley and Descendants Through five Generationms," written by Marston Watson, Second Edition, Genealogical Publishing Company, Baltimore, MD.

The best source for information on this family is from the book "Jonathan Wade of Ipswich, Massachusetts, Revised Edition" by Doris Powell Schultz, published by the author, 1989. The section on this family reads:

"7. Nathaniel Wade, second son of Jonathan and Susanna Wade, born 1648; was in his 60th year when he died 28 November 1707. He was a resident of Medford and active in town affairs. He is buried in the old Medford cemetery where the large flat tombstone reads:

"HERE LIES YE BODY OF MAJ. NATHANIEL WADE DIED NOV YE 28 1707, IN YE 60 YEAR OF HIS AGE. HERE LIES YE BODY OF MARCY WADE, WIFE TO MAJ. NATHANIEL WADE DIED OCT YE 5 1714 IN YE 68 YR OF HER AGE. HERE LIES YE BODY OF CAPT. SAMUEL WADE SON OF MAJ. NATHANIEL WADE, DIED DEC YE 9, 1738. AGE 55 YEARS. ALSO HIS SON NATHANIEL WHOSE RECORD IS LOST. ELIZABETH WIFE OF MAJ. JOHN WADE DIED 1788. MAJ. Major Nathaniel Wade married, on 31 October 1672, Mercy Bradstreet, born 1647, died 5 October 1714, youngest daughter of Governor Simon and Anne (Dudley) Bradstreet, the poetess. About this marriage, Governor Bradstreet wrote the following affidavit:

"When Mr. Jonathan Wade, of Ipswich, came first to my howse att Andovr in the yeare -72- to make a motion of marriage betweixt his son Nathaniel and my daughter Mercy hee freely of himself told mee what hee would give to his son viz. one halfe of his Farm att Mistick, and on third pt of his land in England when hee Dyed: and that hee should have liberty to make use of pt of impved and broken upp ground upon the sd Farme till hee could gett some broken upp for him selfe upon his owne pt. and likewise that hee should live in and have the use of halfe the howse &c til he had one of his owne built upon his pt of the Farme. I was willing to accept his offer or att least sd nothing against it; but Pounded that hee would make sd son a deede of givft of that third pt. of his land in England to enjoy to him and his heires after his death, this he was not free to doe but sd it was as sure for he had soe putt it into his will, that his 3 sons should have that in England equally devyded betwixt them vz. each a 3 pt. I objected hee might altr his will when hee pleased & his wife might dye & hee marry againe and have othr children, wch he thought a vaine objeccon. Much other discourse there was about the stock on the Farm &c but remayning unwilling to give a deed for that in England, saying hee might h've to spend it and after often repeating hee had soe ordered it in his will as aforesd wch hee should never alter without great necessity or words to that purpose soe wee pted for that tyme leaving that mattr to further consideracon, after hee came home hee told sevall of my Friends and others as they informed me that hee had Pffered to give his son Nathaniel bettr than 1000L and I would not accept of it, the next tyme he came to my howse, after some discourse about the premises and Pceiving his resolucon as form'ly, I consented to accept of wy hee had form'ly ingaged, and left it to him to add wt he pleased towards the building of him a howse &c and soe agreed that the young Psons might Pceede in marryager with both or consent wch accordingly they did. S. BRADSTREET. The Honble Simon Bradstreet, Esqr made oath to the truth of the above written Sept 21th 1683 before SAMLL NOWELL, Assist."
