Near the close of the 18th Century, Nathaniel Vail followed his 2 uncles (thomas and Abraham Vail) to the wooded hills then called the New Hampshire Grants, in the region that later became Vermont. In his first deed for land in sharon, VT, he is described as "of Southold, county of Suffolk, state of New York." In his second deed, dated Oct 29, 1801, he is "of Sharon". References
