"Nathaniel Thayer was a proprietor of Taunton, Mass., 1668, the first record we have of him. That he was not the son of Richard and Dorothy (Mortimore) Thayer, of Braintree, has been clearly proven. His identity is unknown. He was one of the fifty-two grantees named in the deed from Gov. Prince and others for the 'North Purchase' of Taunton, June 6, 1668; also named one of the grantees of the Bradford deed of 1689."
