The Cram Sourcebook has: "Nathaniel enlisted in the armed services at the age of 29, on Oct. 5, 1861. He was serving as a corporal in the First Massachusetts Cavalry when his enlistment expired April 20, 1864. The next day he re-enlisted, transferring to Company L, Fourth Massachusetts Cavalry. He was wounded on Feb. 10, 1864 at Barber's Place, Florida, and was mustered out on Nov. 14, 1865."
