1st Congregational Church, Sharon says:- 11 Feb. 1773 Nathaniel Calkins and Lois Barrows, both of Sharon, were married.

Pension Application of Nathaniel & Lois Calkins, # W.16, 884. Saratoga Co., N.Y. 23 Feb. 1833 Joseph Barrows desposes that in the year Burgoyne was taken he resided at Sharon, Conn. and was intimately acquainted with Nathaniel Calkins who was his brother-in-law, having married his sister. Nathaniel enlisted in Capt. David Downs Company early in the winter. In the Spring they went North and Calkins did not return until latter part of September, or early October. He had been taken sick near Lake George and deponant went after him and brought him home in October. He places the by the year Burgoyne was taken.

5 Sep. 1832 Nathaniel Calkins a resident of Cornith, Saratoga Co., N.Y. was aged 79 on the 11th of June 1832. He was one year old when his family moved to Sharon, Conn. where he resided until he was 31 years old. He was born in the Oblong N.Y. At the age of 31 years he removed to Canaan, Columbia Co. N.Y. and less than a year later went to Milton where he lived seven, or eight, years and then to Corinth where he resided thirty-five years last March.

He enlisted the middle of Feb. 1776 with the Connecticut Troops for one year and to go to Quebec, Canada; he served much of the time as a waiter to Major Sedgewick of Cromwell. He recites the route they followed. On the way up they were at Sorrell for twelve days; he returned in the boat with the sick and twelve days later joined the troops going to Canada. At Crown Point he was taken sick with a malignant fever and taken to Lake George where he was discharged as "Unfit for duty," 2 Sep. 1776 and reached home on the 17th. of October but was in feeble health thereafter. He was called out in Col. Peneyor's Company and sent to Fishkill for about six weeks; Thomas Dibble and Zebedee Mosher gave credence.

23 Dec. 1843, Lois Calkins, of Saratoga C., N.Y. aged 88 years and widow of Nathaniel Calkins, who died 10 Apr. 1843 at Moreau, N.Y. She says they were married by the Rev. Cotton Mather Smith at Sharon, Conn. 6 Jan. 1771. Present were James White and his wife all now deceased; also present were David Boris and his wife and Isaac Purdy and his wife, all of whom are now deceased. Her maiden name was Lois Borris.

Nathaniel was called to service Mar. 1775 and sent North and was taken sick with fever and returned home about 26th of October. In 1777 he was out twice- once for five weeks and once for four weeks and in 1778 he served six, or seven weeks. Attached to the application is a leaf torn from a volume of "meditations and Contemplations" printed in 1784 in London, England and headed "Genealogy of the family of Nathaniel Calkins."

John Roberts of Moreau, N.Y. ae. 74 years and acquainted whith Nathaniel Calkins fo more than forty years sent in this record ans knows that it is in the hand writing of Nathaniel.

(Clarry suggest a girl-- Clare or Clarissa. but descendants claim it was a boy named Chauncey.)
