    BULLARD, Nathanel, Ens., d. June 17, 1754.

  2. Nathaniel bought land in 1706 so born by 1685, probably earlier. Joseph is the second son, so not before Joseph.
  3. The identification of Nathaniel as son of Jonathan is based on his father's probate, especially a citation issued to "Nathaniel Bullard of Needham" regarding his father's estate. A Middlesex deed Vol. 48, p. 128 shows "Nathaniel Bullard of Needham" quitclaiming to Benjamin Bullard of Weston administrator of Jonathan Bullard late of Weston deceased his right in the homestead, executed in 1726, acknowledged in 1748.

Because the coverage of Jonathan Bullard's family is so flawed in Bond and Other Bullards, not listing half the children, there is much confusion about Nathaniel to be found. The Find A Grave memorial may be one of the worst examples: the birth of Nathaniel s/o Joseph 1677 is matched with the death of Nathaniel s/o Jonathan d. 1754 based on no gravestone image and specifying a death location where neither one lived.

Bullard and Allied, p. 18, says the son of Joseph, b. 1677 inherited the homestead of Joseph, and Nathaniel's widow sold it in 1753. Bullard is not real clear on this, as he never names Nathaniel's wife or children, nor does he identify the deed. No probate for this Nathaniel is found. It appears to be Suffolk Deed Vol. 82, p. 222. Assuming all this is correct, it implies that the son of Joseph lived in Dedham and died before 1753.

On the other hand, Nathaniel Bullard of Needham, s/o Jonathan, executes several deeds, one as late as 1754, but prior to the 17 Jun 1754 death date of Ensign Nathaniel Bullard. Suffolk deed Vol. 108, p. 38 18 May 1754 sells half of a parcel to son Moses, other half having gone to son Ephraim, plus other land. Middlesex deed Vol. 52, p. 580 27 Mar 1746: sells land in Natick to son Nathaniel Bullard Jr. of Worcester (who, incidentally, himself d. 1755 leaving widow Elizabeth, the Natick land showing up in his inventory - Worcester Probate 8885). No probate is found for this Nathaniel either.
