    NAPOLEON DASHNAW DIES AT 98
    Napoleon Dashnaw, 98, a school custodian here for 35 years until his retirement in 1948 at the age of 85, died about 8:30 p.m., Tuesday (Sept. 19, 1961) at Pritchard Pavilion,the St. Lawrence State Hospital. Mr. Dashnaw, who had made his home with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Dashnaw, 1853 Jay St., entered the hospital a year ago.
    The body is resting at the Lalonde-Briggs funeral home, where the funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. James Imler, curate of St. John's church, officiating. Interment will be in the Ogdensburg cemetery.
    Surviving Mr. Dashanw, besides his son, are two grandsons and one granddaughter; and four great-grandchildren.
    Mr. Dashnaw was born at Oswego on Apr. 11, 1863, the son of Oliver and Margaret Delanger Dashnaw. When he was eight years old, the family moved to Ogdensburg.
    On Oct. 14, 1894, Mr. Dashnaw married Ellizabeth Bresette, the ceremony being performed in the First Presbyterian church of Ogdensburg by the Rev. Dr. Merrill Miller. Mrs. Dashnaw died July 8, 1944.
    When Mr. Dashnaw was ten years old, he went to work for the late Gen. Newton Martin Curtis, weeding vegetables in the General's garden. He continued to work for 74 years, until his retirement as school custodian in December, 1848, at the age of 85.
    For many years, Mr. Dashnaw worked for Dr. Charles and Dr. Henry Benton, driving the doctors around on their various calls with a horse and buggy. He continued in the employ of the Benton family for 30 years, including the time the late Dr. John Benton practiced medicine here. Following his employment with the Benton family, Mr. Dashnaw accepted the post of custodian in the Ogdensburg Public School system. He first worked at the old No. 2 School. When that building burned, he became janitor at Sherman School and remained in the job until he retired. While at the Sherman School, he was a unique and familiar figure as he peddled a bicycle, four times a day, to and from work. a distance of about two miles.

    LAST RITES HELD FOR NAPOLEON DASHNAW 98
    Funeral rites for Napoleon Dasnaw, 98, a school custodian here for 35 years until his retirement in 1948 at the age of 85, were held at 2 p.m., today at the Lalonde-Briggs funeral home. the Rev. James Imler, curate of St. John's church, officiated. Interment was in the Ogdensburg cemetery. Bearers were Kenneth Gladle, Loren Eustis, Sydney shannon, Carlton Bressett and Leo and Wallace St. Andrews.
    Mr. Dashnaw died Tuesday evening at Prichard Paviion, the St. Lawrence State Hospital, where he had been a patient for about one year.
