Nancy married Martin S. Ribble on November 21, 1939 (Delaware County marriage record C-1-256). They were unable to have children. So when her sister, Lucy (Smith) Lowry, died, Nancy took in four of their children. This information is listed in a September 2, 1911, interviewof "Mrs. Nancy Ribble" by the Muncie Evening Press. Andrew (spelled "Anderson" in the clipping) N. Ribble was shot throught the lungs at the Battle of Kennedyville, MD, and after remaining in the hospital three months was brought home to die. George W. Ribble, the youngest brother contacted a fever due to exposure on the march and died in the hospital at Arlington Heights. His remains were interred in the National Cemetery there." (This I have been unable to prove, but I have learned that he died of Small Pox!) "The two daughters, Melissa and" (Mary) "Nancy passed away and then Mr. and Mrs. Ribble were left childless again." (Melissa is buried at Mt. Tabor with her mother, grandmother, Rosannah, and brother, John Lowry. Nancy Nancy was later reclaimed by her father when her two older sisters got married and apparently James Lowry needed someone to "cook and to clean" in his househould when he moved to Henry County, IL. There they married off Mary Nancy to David Payton as her father died and they needed to find her a good home. A guardian, Jacob Payton, was appointed to care for her two younger brothers. This has lead me to believe that James Lowry was related to the Paytons & maybe James Lowry's mother was a Payton, but I have been unable to prove it! Per MaryLu McClure, 7/2004.
