I have not seen either of the source Gilmore books, but have been told that the 2nd book "More Fairchilds in America" corrects the parents of Nancy. The first book gave her father as Abijah Fairchild and the second book corrects that and says her father was Abiud Fairchild. A study of Abiud in census and tax records locates him in Wilkes County, North Carolina until 1800 when the area in which he lived was cut out of Wilkes and named as Ashe Co. Therefore, we find Abiud enumerated in 1800 in Ashe County, but he apparently still thought of himself as living in Wilkes.

The birth location of Nancy is given in the Gilmore book as Carter County, Kentucky. But this researcher disagrees with that area. I have found no evidence that Abiud and his wife Rebecca were in Kentucky until he moved there after Rebecca died. Nancy and Nathaniel Lansdown married in 1799 in Wilkes County, North Carolina. That is the same year that Ashe County was cut out of Wilkes County and though the Fairchild family hadn't moved, they were now in Ashe Co. And so were found on the 1800 Census for Ashe County Fairchild, Abineser 00001 00001 (Ebenezer) Fairchild, Ben 00010 33010 Fairchild, Cyrus 20010 20010 Fairchild, Biud 00010 33010 Morgan pg 78 It is impossible to detect close neightbors from this 1800 census because it has been alphabetized! Abiud and Rebecca were 26 thru 44 yrs old; born between 1756 & 1774 and have six daughters. Nancy was married and out of the household by then.
