"(34) Col. Nahum Ward, m. July 16,1714, (Boston Rec.) Martha, b. July 13, 1687, dau. of Daniel How, of Marlboro’. He followed the seas in early life, and in several voyages was master of a vessel; but a spiritual change coming over him, as he said, induced him to relinquish that mode of life, and go into trade in Boston, where it is supposed his eldest son was b., and whose birth is found only on Shrewsbury records with those of his other chil. It will be seen, that according to the records, that son was b. more than a year before the parents' marriage. The early age at which the son was married leads to the presumption that he was b. as early as recorded, and that the error, if any, is in the record of the year of his parents' marriage. The father was of Marl., 1716, where the birth of the second son is recorded, and soon after of Shrewsbury, where is the only record of his other chil. He was a proprietor of Shrews., one of its first settlers, and one of the founders of the chh. in that town. He was the first, and for seven years, the Rep. from S. in the Gen. Court. He rose to the rank of Col., was early a magistrate, and, in 1745, a Justice of the C. C. Pleas for the county of Worcester; in which office he d., May 7,1754, aged 70, having made his will on the 21st of Feb. preceding his death. His wid., Martha, d. July 1,1755, aged 68."
