Miss Myra Carroll Winkler, pioneer El Paso teacher and for 10 years, the superintendent of El Paso County schools, died late yesterday in her home at 1111 North Florience Street. She was 83.

She was the daughter of Judge Clinton M. Winkler, who was an original judge of the first Court of Appeals of Texas, and for whom Winkler County was named. She had lived in El Paso 61 years.

Miss Winkler was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, a member of Delta Kappa Gammaa Society, a member of United Daughters of the Confederacy and of Harmony Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. She had served as superintendent of El Paso County Schools for ten years and a county school was named for her. She was the first woman superintendent of county schools. She taught at College of Mines for three years and in the El Paso Public School system for many years. She was a teacher at El Paso High School at the time of her retirement in 1950.

Survivors are three nieces, Miss Beatrice Markgraff, Mrs. Augusta Belden and Mrs. V. W. Luckett, all of El Paso.

Funeral services willbe held at 10 a.m. tomorrow in Harding Orr and McDaniel Montana avenue Chapel. Rev. B.M.G. Williams and Rev. Euene Byrick will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
