Richard Stout and Some Descendants: Moses Long enlisted at the age of 16 1/2 years, in a MA regiment in the spring of 1777, and served three years to 1780. His regiment was sent to NY and was stationed for a time at Fort Stanwix. He was at the surrender of Burgoyne the October following and passed the terrible winter at Valley Forge. In June 1778, he participated in the Battle of Monmouth, NJ. His regiment was known as the 'Cape Ann Regiment' and was in the division of General Charles Lee. He was one of the 16 men who acted as Washington's body guard the night after the battle of Monmouth.
