(On the same page of the census, and 5 houses away from Morris and his family, are John and Mary Kane, his parents.) From the census information, it is obvious that Morris' first wife died, and that he has remarried. The first 2 children listed here are the same two that we see in the 1870 census with Mary. (Their daughter, Wilimina, has died.) The census taker has also correctly noted the different birth places of the mothers of the 2 sets of children. Notice also the birthplace of Morris. If this is accurate, then it is a valuable clue for the immigration pattern, and the dating of the Kane family's immigration from Ireland to the United States. Perhaps this is the family that immigrated to the U.S. in the 1840's with the Potato Famine, as per Mabel (Sullivan) Erickson's information, rather than the Sullivan's migration date that appears to have been in the mid to late 1850's.
MORRIS KANE helped build the foundation on the Prairie Dell Church in 1870, where Honora (Kane) Sullivan was buried in 1878. Morris and his first and second wife are also buried there, along with a deceased daughter. John Kane and Mary (Flynn) Kane, the parents of Morris, are also buried right there.

It appears that the stones are recorded in the order that they lie in the cemetery.

"I searched a voluninous file for Morris Kane who died 23 Apr 1890. The reason for the volume was the numerous liabilities he had at the time of his death. In terms of wealth he had a luxurious home and "everything" on the farm, according to the appraisal lists, at least six pages, the most I have ever seen. However, his estate fell $4,000 short of paying his obligations. His wife was Cassa, and his children were John M. Kane, Ella Murphy, wife of William. of Wisner, Nebraska, Morris, age 14, Rosa, age 13, Mabel, age 11, and Willie, age 10.
The 1884 atlas shows a commodious farmstead one mile east of Prairie Dell church and the plat map shows hundreds of acres in his possession. His widow lists 735 acres in the petition to administer his estate. However, the inventory seems to list a mere 120 acres. Apperently he had lost it to creditors... Another interesting paper has to do with his [Morris's?] mother relinquishing her share of her husband's estate to her son's estate!!! (Box 43)"
