The Manchester Courier and Lancashire General Advertiser, Wednesday, February 28, 1849, page 6, column 2: TRANSFER OF PUBLICAN'S LICENSES - Yesterday being a special sessions for hearing applications for the transfer of ale house licenses, the following applications were made to Messrs. Maude, Townsend, and Callendar, the sitting justices, and being unopposed by the police were granted: ; Spread Eagle, Hanging Ditch, from Richard Walsh to Miriam Walsh;. [NOTE: Richard Walsh died 13 Jan 1849, about 1 1/2 month earlier, so his daughter was assuming the license. 13 other transfers were approved and published at the same hearing. To clarify; Spread Eagle is the pub and Hanging Ditch the street.] References
