Library – Franklin Evening Star, pg. 1) Mrs. Smith Dies Tuesday Night Funeral Rites Set For Local Resident A grandmother of 36 great-grandchildren, Mrs. Oliver O. Smith, died Tuesday night at 7 o’clock at the home of her son, Lester Smith, west of Franklin. She had been ill for two weeks suffereing from a heart condition. Funeral services are to be conducted in the Flinn and Maguire funeral home Friday morning at 10 o’clock with burial following in the first Mr. Pleasant cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday afternoon from 2 until 5 o’clock in the evening from 7 to 9 and on Friday morning until time for the services. They are invited to attend the rites. Mrs. Smith was born at Jamestown, Ky., on Nov. 27, 1875, and her parents were the late Joseph and Nancy Jain Gilpin Scott. Reared in Kentucky she spent the early part of her life there, coming to Franklin bout nine years ago. For the past five years she had made her home with her son. On Sept. 27, 1896, she became the bride of Mr. Smith and eight children were born to them. Two sons preceded her in death. Mrs. Smith died May 4, 1950. At an early age Mrs. Smith united with the Baptist church. Three other sons survive with Lester Smith and are Clint Smith, of Norwood, Ohio, Velber Smith, of Russell Springs, Ky., and Herman Smith, of Franklin and two daughters, Mrs. Floy George and Mrs. Erie McGowon, of Cincinnati, Ohio. Also remaining are 34 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Della Polston, of Shelbyville; Mrs. Celmie Gordon, of Perifield, Ill. And a brother, Grover Scott, of Russell Springs, Ky. References
