Woman, 102, Stricken; Town Named For Her

MINNORA - Mrs. Minnora Knots Proudfoot, 102, for whom this Calhoun County town was named, died at home yesterday after a long illness. Mrs. Proudfoot's father, who served as a captain in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, founded the town and named it Minnora in honor of his daughter. Mrs. Proudfoot was a member of the Minnora Methodist Church and the Women's Society of Christian Service. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Florence Witt, with whom she lived; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Services will be tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Minnora Methodist Church with the Revs. Charles Vinson, Ruby Vinson and Kenneth Cruikshank officiating. Burial will be in Proudfoot Cemetery near Minnora under the direction of Sinnet Funeral Home of Spencer. The body will be taken to the residence today at 6 p. m..
