The original birth registration for Mina Gertrude Hagan lists her as an illegitimate birth to Reano Hagan (https://www.werelate.org/wiki/Person:Reand_Hagan_%281%29) on February 7, 1908 in Kemptville, Ontario, Canada. This birth registration includes the name of the attending physician and was certified by her grand father James Henry Hagan. On the 1911 Census of Canada, Mina is listed as the 3 year old daughter of George Albert Hagan and Mina Jane Good. Also listed in that census is 18 year old niece Rena Hagan. On April 16, 1969, Mina registered her own birth listing George and Mina as her parents with a birth date of April 14, 1908.

Based on the information above we believe that Mina was truly born to a 15 year old Rena Hagan. Following the birth, Rena and Mina went to live with her aunt and uncle in Toronto. It is conceivable that George and Mina adopted baby Mina as their daughter, although records to prove this have yet to be found. To try and hide the fact that Mina was classified as an illegitimates birth, her birth date was changed to April 14, 1908, which was most likely a baptism or christening date.
