MILITARY: The Prescott Daily Courier Thursday, July 8, 2004 He enlisted as an aviation cadet, Army Air Corps, in March of 1940. He was caught up in WWII and from April 1941 to Sept. 26, 1947, he held duties as bombardier instructor and staff bombardier. Principally, he fought in the Western Pacific Campaign, Japanese Air Offensive Campaign and Eastern Mandates Campaign, flying 163 combat hours in B-29 type aircraft in the Asiatic Theater of Operations. After WWII, Col. Knight participated in atomic bomb tests in the Pacific during 1946. Subsequent military assignments included duty with USAF Headquarters, Europe, and Joint Chiefs of Staff, Pentagon. In 1960, Col. Knight and his family returned from Turkey, where he had served three years with a NATO organization. With service time of 21 years, Col. Milton R. Knight received his retirement certificate while assigned to Nellis AF Base, Nevada. Colonel Knight’s awards and decorations include the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, Air Medal, Purple Heart, American Defense Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, Commendation Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, and the Air Force Longevity Service Award with four bronze Oak Leaf Clusters.

OBITUARY: The Prescott Daily Courier Thursday, July 8, 2004 Milton Roberts Knight Colonel Milton Roberts Knight, USAF retired, was cleared for final takeoff on July 3, 2004, in Prescott. He was 87 years old and lived in Prescott 32 years. He was the son of Samuel Lee Knight and Martha (Stephenson) Knight. Col. Knight graduated from Hinkley High School and attended Brigham Young University for three years. He enlisted as an aviation cadet, Army Air Corps, in March of 1940. Knight is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of Prescott; daughter, Catherine Rusing of Prescott; sons, Milton Jr. of Texas, Raymond V. of Texas, Andrew S. of England; sisters, Esther Searle of Utah and Rachel Spor of Utah; a brother, Chester of Colorado; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, William Lee Knight, sisters, Hazel Hanson and Ina Jensen, and a brother, Newel of Utah. A Visitation and Gathering of Friends will be held Sunday, July 11, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Hampton Funeral Home, 240 South Cortez Street, in Prescott. Col. Knight will be interred in the family plot in Washington City Cemetery in Utah.
