Address: Mikkel Larsen Name: Mikkel Larsen

I found an M. L. Lysen in St. Olaf Township plat book near Whitman lake. SW Quarter Section 15 town 131 Range XL IW. He is listed in the 1884 Plat book for Otter tail County.

He probably came to Minnesota between 1865-1872. HIs daughter once reported they lived in Grant County 1870-1878.

Mecal Lysen is in the St. Olaf 1880 census. Page 16 Dwelling 76 Family 80. He was 52 and Ingeborg was 42. Andreas was 9, Lewis was 7, Anne 5, and Malla 1. In the the 1885 census he was 57 but his wife was Inger and she was 63, Lewis was 12 Mina J was 16, Anne S was 10, and Amalis was 6. The handwriting is hard to decipher. Ingeborg must have died between 1880 and 1885 and Inger must have came to help raise the children.

He is reported to have come from Lysen farms in Hadeland Norway but last lived on Finbrattin Farm in Hurdal Askerus Norway.

In the 1865 Norway census Mekel Lars was a tenant farmer age 38 born in Gran living with his wife Inge Borgersdatter. They had five children Marthe Mekelsdatter age 18 born in Hurdal, Ingeborg Mekelsdatter, age 15 born in Hurdal, Elina Mekelsdatters age 13 born in Hurdal, Maria Mekelsdatter age 9 born in Hurdal and Lars Mekelson age 7 born in Hurdal. They were living on Finbraaten farm in Skrokkelien Skoledistrikt Hurdal Norway.

Hello Gerald.

My name is Ole P. Gamme, I live in Gran, Norway, and is a member of the Kontaktforum Hadeland-Amerika. We try to find out what happened with the 10 000 emigrants from Hadeland in their new country.

Verlyn Anderson forwarded your mail about your great grandfather Mikkel Larsen. I have written a form with the information you havesent, and what I have found out about this family. I send form 871 as an attachment.

I was not able to find the emigrationrecords for Mikkel on Internet, but this base is not complet. I found him and his new family in St. Olaf Twp., Ottertail Co. in Census 1880 on Internet. In 1880 Mikkel and Ingeborg had 4 children.

I have searched for Mikkel's siblings.

Hans, born 1830, married 21.08.1853 to Maren Olsdtr., got this children: Ingeborg, b. 13.11.1953, Elina, b. 17.07.1856 at Gautvedteiet in Gran, Lise, b. 26.03.1859, at Lysen, Lars, born 24.05.1865 in Hurdal, Hans Martinius, b. 05.12.1868 in Hurdal, Maren, b. 05.01.1872 at Lysen in Brandbu, Ole, b. 09.01.1877 at Kammerudeiet.

Kari, born 12.08.1833. I can not find any mariage for Kari, and not that she died in Gran. Emigrated?

Anders, born 12.04.1835 married 08.03.1859 to Pernille Halvorsdtr., born 19.01.1836 at Almseiet in Tingelstad, Gran. They got one one son, Lars, born 14.08.1859 in Gran. I can not find other children of Anders and Pernille born in Hadeland. I can either find any death records for them. They must have moved to another district in Norway, and maybe emigrated later.

In Census 1880 for Norwegians in America, where I found Mikkel (Mecal Lysen), there also is an Anders Larson with wife Pernille as neigbours for Mikkel. They have 9 children at home in 1880. ( one boy, Sam, 2 mnd. old is on the next page. I send the pages about Mikkel and Anders so you maybe can try to find this people. Anders' age is wrong, but that is a lot of wrong records in this Census. Pernille's age is correct. If this should be Mikkel's brother, Anders and Pernille must have lived in Norway until about 1870, since their daughter Maria, 9 years old is born in MN.

If there is a history book for Otter Tail County, maybe there is something about them there, or it is possible to search for the death certificate, and look where Anders and Pernille where born in Norway.

You wrote in your first mail that Mikkel's first family came to America and joined Mikkel after his second wife's death. Have you any facts about that.

I hope you can find some more information about this family.

Greetings from Ole P. Gamme, e-mail: olegam@online.no

(Research):He was in 1885 census for St. Olaf township.

I found an M. L. Lysen in St. Olaf Township plat book near Whitman lake. SW Quarter Section 15 town 131 Range XL IW.

He had a daughter named Mina living with him in 1885. She was 16 at the time.

I have a spouse listed as Isabelle Lewison Lyson b Sept 29, 1838 who D Oct 24, 1881 in Grant county.

Another source lists his wife in Minnesota as Guro Elm. The only marriage licesense listed for Minnesota is Ingeborg Peterson. His marriage to her resulted in three children Lewis, Anna, and Malla. His wife from Norway had 7 children and joined him here after second wife died.

1872 M.L. Lysen May 17 book 1 page 83 records his mariage to Ingeborg

Death certificate is for Michael Lysen number 1908-MN-009190 in Otter Tail county.

Mikkel Larsen was born 13. April 1828 on Kammerudejet in Gran parish. His father was Lars Mickelsen, born 1805, died 1890. His mother was Ingeborg Hansdatter, born 1797, died 1884.

Christening: 20 APR 1828 Gran, Oppland, Norway Father: LARS MICHELSEN <individual_record.asp?recid=100110798200&lds=1&region=12&frompage=99> Mother: INGEBORG HANSDR <individual_record.asp?recid=100110798201&lds=1&region=12&frompage=99>

Lars Mickelsen and Ingeborg Hansdatter married 27. Dec. 1827. Lars was then living on Greftegrev. Ingeborg was living on Kammerudeje, and her father was Hans Eriksen.

Mikkel Larsen had three siblings: Hans, born 4. Dec 1830, married 1853 to Maren Olsdatter. Kari, born 12. Aug 1833 Anders born 12. April 1835

In the census for 1865 and 1875 Lars, Ingeborg and Kari is living on Nordre Støa, also called Lysen.

I checked my Scandinavian Vital Records Index and found the entry for the marriage of Mikel Larsen )age 20) and Inge Borgersdatter (age 27) marriage date October 27, 1848 in Hurdal parish Akershus, Norway. Mikels's father is listed as Lars Mikelsen and Inge's father is listed as Borger Pedersen. This information is from the LDS files FHL film # 278162 Hurdal Parish records for 1846-1877. I found no other information regarding births or christenings, because the Vital Records Index and online LDS information is incomplete.

individuals, I did some searching in the Norway online census for 1865 and 1801. In 1865 on Finbraaten farm in Skrokkelien Skoledistrikt Hurdal, I found your great grandfather Mekel Lars.(tenant farmer)age 38 born in Gran; living with his wife Inge Borgersd. age 45 born in Hurdal with their 5 children: Marthe Mekelsd. age 18 born in Hurdal Ingebor Mekelsd. age 15 born in Hurdal Elina Mekelsd. age 13 born in Hurdal Maria Mekelsd. age 9 born in Hurdal Lars Mekelsen age 7 born in Hurdal

The Hurdal Bygebok on page 541 of Volume 2 by Olav Tweeter lists Finbrattin as one of the names for farm place called Simarud. It was called that originally cause it was reportedly cleared by a man named Simon. The Finbrattin name is jplace cleared by Finns and Nordbrattin means North clearing. This area was also called Borgersrud but all three are names listed under Simarud which is only farm namefor this area listed in 1900 census for Hurdal. This farm site is most likely a cottage frm on Norgarden og Sorgarden farms.
